The dream of Health Matters began in 1999 in a remote village in Honduras, Central America. Young, idyllic and fresh out of college, a budding entrepreneur and future doctor crossed paths in the remote village of San Marcos de Colon. During their time in the United States Peace Corps, they forged an immediate connection and spent two years building not just a knowledge base in their vocations, but more importantly an emotional connection to who they were as individuals, to each other and and to how they saw the world.

In 2001 as they turned the page on this chapter and moved on from working with the indigenous people of Honduras, they continued their education and training in Arizona, where Jane grew up. Phil completed naturopathic medical school at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, did an internship in regenerative medicine, and worked for a few years with one of the community’s top NMDs. In 2012, Phil and Jane opened Health Matters in Scottsdale.

Health Matters was built from this personal truth that the Waznys felt so much conviction about – that people have an individual story, and each story is essential to a patient’s physical and mental health. Communication and relationship building would help his patients heal. From both a patient and business perspective, Phil and Jane knew their conviction of compassion could not be pushed to the wayside when it came to a life in medicine.

Over twenty years and two daughters later, Phil and Jane Wazny still give their greatest effort to remain true to their ideals. They are proud of the Health Matters home they have created where patients feel heard, cared for, accepted, and encouraged to use the tools we share to optimize their health and life!
